7 or 8 blocks (driving distance) from her apartment

after a pause, suddenly language intersects with an image
type fast: skin clutters on skin, they lake a picture

staying close to the new rhythm, eyes glean
slideshows, quick inserts, comic panels, postcards from door

opens, Robert Duncan walks in
Jack Marshall and RD exchange greetings

standing awkward, a stranger browsing at books
join their conversation in quick silence

then JM introduces me to RD
we shake hands, trying not to follow his eyes crossing
